About the Artist

Born in Milan, Italy Alessandra Manzotti is a self-taught photographer and the photographic journey came later in her life. Memories from her Italian childhood, extensive travels, the challenges of motherhood in her forties, and a never-ending curiosity and sense of restlessness have been the most influential factors in Manzotti’s photographic style and aesthetic.

Alessandra uses photography to capture images that communicate the thoughts and feelings that she has experienced. First and foremost, Alessandra make photographs for herself.

Her newest work was from her trip in Mongolia. Musun Shagai or “ice shooting” is a traditional Mongolian game. The goal of the game is to hit colorful goats/sheep or even cow ankle bones with a small copper puck down a stretch of ice usually 93 yards long. Alessandra sat and watched it for a while and came to the conclusion that it is a bit like the Italian bocce ball game and bowling.
