Artist Statement
My photography explores the evolving relationship between humans and their environments,
capturing the imprint of culture, time, and transformation in both urban and coastal
landscapes.Growing up a suburban kid on the North Shore of Long Island in the 1970s, I had two great escapes: New York City and the Long Island shoreline from Jones Beach to Montauk. Radically different, these environments expanded my horizons, literally and figuratively, and still affect me today.
While my work is rooted in a documentary approach, I embrace the past, drawing attention to the layers of history embedded in everyday places that may evoke personal and collective memories. At the same time, I interlace these subjects with a modern twist and a sense of humor, using bold colors, graphic compositions, and materials like aluminum and acrylic to amplify each image's vibrancy and depth. Through this approach, I strive to create a joyful and visually compelling dialogue that bridges nostalgia with a contemporary perspective.
