Time Lapse Series
Galician photographer Xan Padrón transforms the everyday movement of city streets into vivid collective portraits. For his ongoing Time Lapse series, begun in 2011, Padrón photographs people passing a single location over an extended period and brings those moments together in one seamless composition.
Each finished work captures a particular place's character and rhythm. Individuals remain distinct, yet together they reveal the street's social choreography—the gestures, clothing, pace, and chance encounters that give a city its identity. Padrón has created Time Lapse works in cities around the world, including New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Brisbane, London, Beijing, Paris, and Medellín.
The series has been exhibited internationally, including presentations at United Nations Headquarters in New York and the 42 St–Bryant Park subway station through MTA Arts & Design. In 2026, three Time Lapse works were included in Power of Words, an 88-foot installation at the Museum of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.

Each image is printed on white-gloss ChromaLuxe aluminum, a surface that brings exceptional luminosity, crisp detail, and depth to Padrón’s layered scenes. We mount the print to Sintra and finish it with an aluminum inset backing. This construction gives the artwork a clean, rigid, gallery-ready presentation and lets it float elegantly off the wall.
From color management and dye sublimation to mounting and finishing, we produce every piece in our Rhode Island studio with close attention to consistency across Padrón’s editions.
